lankton: The Movie is a 2025 animated musical spin-off film of the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise, centered on the tiny, megalomaniacal villain Plankton. It was released on Netflix on March 7, 2025, and is the second spin-off feature produced for the streamer, following Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie

Plot summary

The film explores the tumultuous relationship between Plankton and his computer wife, Karen. After another failed attempt to steal the Krabby Patty formula, Plankton returns to the Chum Bucket to find that Karen has renovated it into a successful, customer-filled restaurant. 

Infuriated that her plan is not "evil," Plankton destroys the new business. Enraged, Karen removes her "empathy chip" and transforms into a powerful, multiheaded robot to conquer Bikini Bottom on her own. Plankton must then team up with SpongeBob and the "Gal Pals" (Sandy, Pearl, and Mrs. Puff) to stop her.

• Backstory: The film provides new insight into Plankton's past, revealing that he was an outcast from his family and created Karen out of a potato and a calculator to have a friend. He later upgraded her, implanting different personality chips, including the empathy chip she removes. The film deliberately retcons some of the character's backstory from earlier episodes.
